DRIVERS wearing a certain item have been urged to avoid getting out of their car and instead use a drive-thru.

The surprising request has been made by a hugely popular bakery – who says the rule is for anyone who wants to enter their business.

In a bizarre post shared on Facebook, the bakery politely requested that customers who wear lots of perfume or cologne to buy from them only by using their drive-thru.

They wrote: “We kindly ask that if you wear strong perfumes or colognes, please utilize our drive-thru service.

“Several cashiers in our bakery suffer from asthma, and this time of year can be particularly challenging for them due to the high pollen count.

“The addition of strong fragrances can make it even more difficult for them to breathe, as their airways are already irritated.

Please note that these fragrances tend to linger in the building even after you leave, which can lead to coughing and discomfort for our team members.”

Further down, the post implies that some customers have made rude remarks about employees coughing.

It concluded: “We appreciate your understanding in keeping comments regarding coughing to yourselves if you choose to enter the building wearing heavy scents.”

Later, in a statement to Today.com, the bakery said that this is not an official rule – but more of a request to its customers.

The statement said: “It’s just an encouragement to be aware of those around you.

“No customers will be turned away if they come inside wearing scents.”

Driver left in limbo as she told she doesn’t own car despite buying it for $15k – then she learned she wasn’t alone

Thankfully, many of the commenters championed their stance.

One wrote: “My mother has terrible asthma, and the smells get to her too!

“They can also send her into a coughing fit, then people around her look at her like she is sick. So, thank you for doing this!”

Another added: “Thank you for looking out for your staff. This can also affect future customers coming in as well.

“While I do not have asthma, I [do] have an allergy to perfumes and colognes.

“I feel like people have no idea how much they are using or have on them.”

However, not everyone was quite as sympathetic, as another commenter wrote: “We should be allowed to expose rude customers. And ask them to never come back again, especially if we are just doing our job and you’re the one who woke up on the wrong side of bed.

“There are too many bakeries around this area for someone to complain and come right back the next day.”

The New Jersey bakery, called Century Bakery, is based in Bridgeton, and is described by its website as a “hometown favorite and a staple since the 1930s”.

Expert advice on prepping your car for summer

Dustin Piggot, the Service Manager at a Subaru Dealership with years of technincal experience, told The U.S. Sun in an exclusive interview which items drivers should have checked before temperatures rise:

  1. Have a multi-point inspection performed. A paid inspection will prompt a technician to check vital systems like braking, power steering, and front and rear suspension for any leaks or malfunctions. They will also test the condition of the battery and check vital fluid levels and conditions.
  2. Cooling system. Before things heat up, drivers must have their cooling system inspected for proper coolant levels and condition, have radiator hoses evaluated, and have the radiator checked.
  3. Have your A/C system checked. If freon is low and needs charging or parts need to be replaced, it’s essential to address the issue before temperatures rise.
  4. Make sure your tires are appropriate for warmer weather. If you live in a climate that necessitates a dedicated winter tire, swap them with all-season or summer tires if possible to extend the life of the winter tire. Winter tires are softer and will wear out much quicker in warmer weather.
  5. Look at tread depth. Tires with low tread depth will make it more difficult to stop your car if you need to avoid an accident.
  6. Give your car some TLC. Before it gets too hot, Piggott says it’s important to give your car a good cleaning to wash away winter grime and dirt and treat your paint to a nice coat of wax to protect it from harsh UV rays and high heat. Many dealerships like his offer detailing and washing services.
