Dropbox is shutting down key app and warns passwords will be deleted in WEEKS

DROPBOX is shutting down a major service in weeks, with users warned their passwords will be deleted.

The file-storage service has urged customers to export and migrate their passwords before they are wiped clean.

In just a few weeks’ time, on August 28, the password manager tool will switch to view-only, meaning users will no longer be able to add any new passwords to it.

Dropbox will also be disabling its autofill system on this date, however, you will still be able to view any saved passwords.

On September 11, the Dropbox Passwords app will be shut down, but you will still be able to view passwords via a web browser.

Then, on October 28, Dropbox Passwords will be shut down completely.

Following the shutdown, all saved passwords will be deleted, and you will no longer be able to view them.

Additionally, Dropbox is also shutting down its dark web monitoring features.

What to do if you are a Dropbox Passwords user

If you use Dropbbox Passwords, it is vital to export your passwords to a new password manager tool before the shutdown.

Dropbox is currently offering users 50% off its rival service 1Password.

Migrating your passwords is extremely easy, using the browser extension, and you can also do it manually.

How to migrate passwords

The easiest way to migrate passwords is as follows:

  1. Open Dropbox Passwords in your browser
  2. You should now see a new ‘Migrate to 1Password’ option
  3. Tap on the link to begin migration and make a 1Password account

1Password is available as a browser extension on Mac, iOS, Windows, Android, and Linux.

If you would prefer to migrate your passwords manually, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Open Dropbox Passwords in your browser, and click on the accounts page
  2. Click on Preferences, then Account, then Export and save the exported file localy.
  3. Open 1Password in your browser, sign in, and head to the account page
  4. Click on Import, and then Dropbox, and open the file saved on your computer
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions, and then press continue
