You will no longer find the official Android app for Kaspersky Antivirus in the Play Store. The adjustment apparently comes after the security guard’s software was banned from the United States. The Biden administration blacklisted the company in June this year, saying it had ties to the Russian government and thus posed a threat to national security.
No more updates
American users are no longer allowed to purchase software from Kaspersky, and the company is also no longer allowed to perform updates, which is very important for security software. As a solution, the company last month replaced all its PC installations in the country with software from a lesser-known American company.
So now the mobile app has also disappeared for Android users. It is striking that the app also seems to have disappeared from international app stores. During a short test, we no longer found the app in the Dutch Play Store. The antivirus appears to still be available in the Apple app store.
Kaspersky investigates situation
Kaspersky says in a post on its help forum that it is investigating the matter. In a press release to TechRadar, the company reports that Google has interpreted the ban too broadly. The security guard directs users who want to download the app to alternative app stores such as the Galaxy Store, Huawei AppGallery, Xiaomi GetApps and its own website.
