X USERS have been left in the dark after the website and app suddenly stopped working for thousands.

Over 20,000 users have reported problems on Downdetector with most of the issues appearing to hit Elon Musk’s app.

The spike in reports on X, formerly Twitter, started just after 3pm UK time, according to Downdetector.

Meanwhile, 37 per cent of problems were affecting the X website, according to complaints on the outage website.

The site and its app did not load at all for thousands, with visitors instead seeing a blank screen.

Some users also saw Cloudflare error pages – though the issue was at X itself.

Often, during outages at X, the site itself will load but it will show no posts.

Users took to other social media sites and downdetector to share their grievances.

One wrote: “Come back its not working for me.”

Another said: “This is becoming pretty frequent.”

A third commented: “I’m losing my mind.”

The issues appeared to be present right across the world and on the various ways of accessing X, such as its website and mobile apps.

Unlike many other platforms, X does not operate a public-facing status page to give updates on outages and other problems.

It does have one for its developer platform, which claimed during the outage that “all systems are operational”.

This is just the latest in a string of outages that have plagued the Elon Musk-owned website.

Last year in August over 15,000 people reported a blackout, more than the 11,000 who reported issues in May.

At the time, they said they couldn’t even open the app without it kicking them out.

Another outage was reported in March, and that time a massive 58,000 users said there were issues with the platform.

Musk has added new features since he paid out an eyewatering $44 billion to acquire Twitter in October 2022.

He changed the name to X, which is also the nickname he has for his son, whom he shares with singer Grimes.

Before that, Musk added a feature to edit DMs on the app after they’ve already been sent.

And he previously outraged users by “hiding” users’ likes in an effort to increase privacy.
