To do this They have signed an alliance that aims to connect all the planet schools by 2030. The collaboration between the two entities will support the Giga initiative, and will use the global Equinix infrastructure to improve connectivity in schools.

The agreement, which is valid for three years, will be in charge of supporting the Giga mission taking internet access to schools that are in the most remote communities, to offer more learning possibilities to students worldwide. It is an initiative to facilitate the access of all people in the world to the possibilities offered by digital, starting with education.

As part of this collaboration, Giga, a UNICEF project and the International Telecommunications Union, is developing a pilot initiative based on the Equinix infrastructure, focused on the improvement of the precision and reliability of quality and latency measurements in schools.

Equinix, which has a network of more than 260 data centers worldwide, will not only offer the necessary infrastructure to address this transformation, but will also provide the capabilities of its global interconnection platform. These capabilities will help reinforce Giga efforts to map and monitor the real -time connectivity state of schools on their open source map.

Bruce Owen, president of Equinix in EMEAhas stated about this agreement that «Connecting all schools to the Internet is not just a matter of technology, it is a matter of equity and opportunity. Imagine a world where each child has the opportunity to learn and prosper online. This collaboration seeks to ensure that each young man has access to the information and the options he deserves to achieve his maximum potential«.

Christopher Fabian, one of those responsible for the Giga initiativestressed that «Both Giga and the Equinix Foundation share a common vision of a digitally inclusive and connected world, where all children have access to everything the digital world has to offer. Combining connectivity and mapping solutions of giga schools with global experience, skills and resources in Equinix digital infrastructure, this agreement seeks to accelerate progress towards the elimination of the digital gap, and towards the development of a more equitable world for all«.
