ExtremeCloud Edge enables cloud-managed networking at the edge, helping enterprises improve scalability, security and performance, according to Dan DeBacker (pictured), senior vice president of product management at Extreme Networks Inc. The platform was developed to provide a consistent experience across the cloud continuum while addressing data sovereignty and privacy concerns.

“We looked at ExtremeCloud Edge as an opportunity to do a couple of things,” DeBacker said. “One is that we’ve taken the concept of cloud management from a place to an experience. Now, you can have an experience of cloud management, whether it’s up in the public cloud, the private cloud or with this solution, ExtremeCloud Edge, on-premise. The exact same cloud experience, the same licensing, the same features [and] the same capabilities, across what we call the cloud continuum.”

DeBacker spoke with theCUBE’s Bob Laliberte for the Tech Innovation CUBEd Awards 2025 interview series, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, News Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how ExtremeCloud Edge is changing the cloud management game.

How ExtremeCloud Edge presents a consistent cloud experience

ExtremeCloud Edge offers a consistent experience to drive operational efficiency and productivity for organizations in distributed environments. Extreme Networks Inc. takes cloud management a notch higher by offering a single-pane-of-glass view, meaning IT teams can manage networks across multiple locations from one intuitive dashboard, according to DeBacker. For its advancements, Extreme Networks received the CUBBEd “Most Innovative IoT or Edge Platform” award.

“I think cloud management is easy, from a customer’s perspective, but delivering cloud management is very complex,” he said. “The turning point for us was [that] we have to mimic that exact experience, not just only the user experience, but really, all the other aspects of this because the customers still are relying on cloud management for their infrastructure. From a customer’s perspective, if you were to log into ExtremeCloud IQ, you would have no idea if you’re sitting up in AWS, Azure, Google or in a data center right around the corner from your desk.”

When it comes to looking at the bigger picture, ExtremeCloud Edge is not only eyeing cloud management, but also incorporating artificial intelligence capabilities on-premise. This approach will help stay ahead of industry trends with AI integration and convergence, according to DeBacker.

“I think when we started with ExtremeCloud Edge, it was all about, ‘Let’s provide that experience on-premise,’” he said. “Now, for us, we are really taking all of our on-premise applications and on-premise appliances and converging them into ExtremeCloud Edge. The second piece is all about AI. We know that AI will be pushed down from the cloud into the enterprise. Everyone is talking about inference engines being brought down, AI fabrics and data centers.”
