FAMILY DOLLAR has rolled out a major change at more than 5,000 of its stores across the US – in a bid to make shopping more convenient.
The discount chain has teamed up with Uber Eats to offer home delivery of groceries and essentials – and is already up and running before Mother’s Day on Sunday.

Uber announced last week that Family Dollar has been added to the list of stores offering grocery delivery through its Uber Eats app.
The move means customers can now order from 5,000 Family Dollar locations nationwide without stepping foot outside.
Bonita Price, Family Dollar’s chief merchandising officer, said: “By partnering with Uber Eats, it’s now even easier to access essentials from the comfort of home.
“Expanded access at an incredible value goes a long way in helping our customers save time and do more, especially in under-served communities.”
Hashim Amin, Uber’s head of grocery and retail in North America, said: “As millions of people look to stretch their wallets without sacrificing convenience, we’re proud to welcome Family Dollar to the Uber Eats platform.
“This partnership expands affordable access to everyday items while giving people even more ways to shop smart, save time, and stay on budget.”
To celebrate the partnership between the two companies, customers can get 40 percent off Family Dollar orders costing $30 or more and save up to $25 on their orders.
To do this, they have to apply the promotion code FAMILY40 when checking out with the app, Uber said.
The code expires on July 4 at 11:59 pm PT.
It comes as Family Dollar, which operates roughly 8,000 US locations, has faced ongoing difficulties since its acquisition by Dollar Tree for $8.5 billion in 2015.
In March, Dollar Tree announced it would sell Family Dollar for $1 billion to private equity firms Brigade Capital and Macellum Capital.
The sale – expected to close by June 2025 – is set to bring in around $804 million for Dollar Tree.
The parent company closed approximately 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of the 2024 fiscal year.
As the restructuring plan continues, Dollar Tree will shutter around 370 Family Dollar locations and 30 Dollar Tree stores across the next few years as their leases expire.
There are around 16,000 stores across the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar banners, although neither brand has shared which 400 locations will be closed.
However, Texas has the largest number of Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores, with nearly 2,000, so The Lone Star State could see a significant number of closures.
As Dollar Tree moves to shut down hundreds of stores this year, other companies are similarly feeling the strain from inflation and shifting consumer habits.
In a similar blow, an iconic candy company has closed down a popular store after over 100 years.
Meanwhile, Rite Aid and Walgreens are among the top pharmacies closing 2,240 locations.
Family Dollar on Uber Eats

By consumer reporter Maya Lanzone
Shoppers can easily order Family Dollar products on the Uber Eats platform.
After opening the Uber Eats app, customers should navigate to the “Retail” or “Convenience” category.
They can search for a Family Dollar store near them and browse a wide range of affordable products.
Once consumers find the everyday essentials they would like to purchase, they simply add the items to their online cart, choose a delivery time, and place their order.
Uber Eats users can track their order in real time as their items are delivered to their doorstep.
