At the gates of 2025, Palworld is well on its way to celebrating its first anniversary as it should be. Since its launch in early access on January 19, 2024, Pocketpair’s game has had an eventful year to say the least. After breaking many records upon its release, the Pokémon-like who does not wish to assume the resemblance ended up falling into Pikachu’s crosshairs. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company officially sued the game last September. The future of Palworld then seemed compromised in the face of such behemoths in terms of franchise protection. But against all expectations, the title continues its little journey despite everything.
While a smartphone port is in full development at PUBG Studios, the main game received a massive new update on December 23. The Feybreak extension unveiled at the Game Awards did not fail to reignite the hype since Palworld regains its place in the ranking of the most played titles on Steam.
A feat for early access
According to data collected by SteamDB, the top five most played games on the Valve platform – at the time of these lines – are all so-called “titles”.live service“. We find in order: Counter-Strike 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Dota 2, Path of Exile 2 et Marvel Rivals. These experiences, both old and new, are constantly renewed and attract a large number of simultaneous players by their simple nature of multiplayer games. However, here it is Marvel Rivals finds himself closely followed by the famous Palworld which marks a strong return to 6th place in the ranking since the release of its extension.
The title of Pocketpair far exceeds Rust and even double GTA V narrowly: a great proof of success for a game in early access. Especially since the studio is not known for supporting its productions for so long, the abandonment of Craftopia in support. However, it is clear that the universe and gameplay of Palworld continue to hit the mark since a peak of nearly 213,000 concurrent players was measured in the last 24 hours. For comparison, the game only attracted 30,000 simultaneous players on average over the last 3 months.
It would therefore seem that Palworld is set to last. The interest of the players no longer needs to be proven, only the complaint from Nintendo and Pokémon leaves room for doubt. However, now that the studio has taken care to replace the “Pal Spheres” judged to be too close to the famous Pokéball, the game is gradually getting rid of the wrongs that it is accused of. Time will tell if the Pokémon-like will eventually founder under pressure.
