FiiO is back with another pair of high-end headphones, and this time, it’s going all-in on craftsmanship.
The new FT13 headphones are the brand’s latest closed-back dynamic model, featuring beautifully machined purpleheart wood earcups that promise both visual flair and a distinct, natural sound.
Each pair of FT13s is made from purpleheart wood, a rare South American hardwood prized for its tonal warmth and changing hue – shifting over time from light brown to deep violet.
The wood isn’t just for looks, either. FiiO says its rich acoustic qualities, the same that make it popular in high-end guitars, help produce a warm, immersive sound signature. The earcups are CNC-machined, stabilised, and hand-finished with a high-gloss lacquer, making each set one of a kind.
A 60mm dynamic driver with a W-shaped diaphragm inside the FT13 expands the vibration area for cleaner highs and sharper transients. You can stay engrossed in your music by reducing outside noise by up to 26 dB thanks to a U-shaped damping tube, noise-reduction chamber, and sound-absorbing cotton.
Even with these premium materials, the FT13s should be simple to operate because of their high sensitivity and low impedance, which allow them to function well whether connected to a laptop, smartphone, or dedicated DAC setup. Additionally, breathable memory foam earpads aim to make sure that extended listening sessions remain comfortable, demonstrating that comfort has also been considered.
FiiO also includes a detachable Furukawa monocrystalline copper cable with silver-plated wiring and 3.5mm and 4.4mm connectors in the box. Though the build feels decidedly audiophile, accessibility makes it an appealing choice for anyone chasing better sound without needing bulky amplifiers.
Priced at £269, around $329 in the US, the FT13 is available now and positioned as the perfect companion to FiiO’s JM21 music player or the K11 R2R desktop DAC, rounding out a sleek, wood-forward hi-fi setup.
