Fire Risk: Belkin Recalls iPhone Stand and Power Banks

Belkin is recalling its Auto-Tracking Stand Pro as well as two portable power banks—the Belkin BoostCharge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K and the Playa USB-C PD Power Bank 20K—due to fire safety risks.

In the recall notice, the company says a manufacturing defect may cause the products’ lithium-ion cell components to overheat. Belkin has received one report of a fire-related incident in the US and 15 reports internationally, according to the notice from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, spotted by The Verge. Two minor burn injuries and property damage totaling $37,765 have been reported outside the US.

Belkin is offering consumers a full refund or store credit for the full amount plus 20% on Belkin’s website. Customers will need to provide a valid proof of purchase or a serial number.

The company recommends that users immediately stop using affected products and disconnect them from any power source. Devices should be placed in a safe, dry location. Belkin warns consumers not to put recalled devices in household waste or recycling bins.

To check whether a device is included in the recall, look for the model number on the back or side of the product. If your model number is MMA008, BPB002, or PB0003, you can access the Recall Claim form here.

We first saw Belkin’s Auto-Tracking Stand Pro at CES 2024. You attach an iPhone to the dock via a MagSafe connector and pair via NFC. The motorized base can then spin 360 degrees to keep you on camera, and the motorized arm can tilt up to 90 degrees.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Belkin issue large-scale recalls due to overheating issues in its portable chargers. In November 2024, the firm recalled its BoostCharge Pro Fast Wireless Charger for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10K due to battery issues that could cause fires.
