To the outside world, Firestarter has been quiet since the fall of 2022, but internally we have had an exciting time. Firestarter started a crowdfunding campaign in February 2022 to create a radical political crowdfunding platform. This came after a long period of planning, brainstorming, making contacts and analyzing our situation.

The campaign went well and by October 2022 Firestarter had received all the necessary donations. The Firestarter foundation was also established at that time, and the software for the crowdfunding platform was also ready.

The only obstacle to our launch was getting a bank account. During our crowdfunding campaign to set up Firestarter, the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Partly as a result of this invasion, the rules for financial supervision changed. This increased the workload of banks. Supervision became stricter, especially for crowdfunding. Many banks had endless queues or temporarily stopped registering foundations and associations as customers. Especially as a crowdfunding platform, it was difficult to get a bank account.

Because we as Firestarter could not provide a definitive answer about when we could actually launch, we did not communicate a new launch date. We might not be able to meet such a date, and that would be annoying. We continued to work in the background to obtain a bank account.

Now that has finally happened!

We are very happy to announce that all the effort, all the support and all the trust from our environment will finally bear the fruits we have in mind and what we have been working towards for so long.

Despite the long silence, we are as enthusiastic as ever. We look forward to giving our movements’ finances a huge boost!

On to the launch!

Over the next month we will be working hard to get everything ready for the launch of the Firestarter platform on October 25, 2024!

In addition, we are telling everyone that Firestarter is launching soon. “Have you heard of Firestarter?”

Firestarter is launching soon!

The time has finally come! Firestarter is really about to launch!

On October 25th, Firestarter, the crowdfunding platform activists and social movements, will open its digital doors for donations to the first crowdfunding campaigns it hosts.

On that day we will celebrate the opening with a blazing celebration on the night before the Anarchist BookFair Amsterdam (ABFA) at the Plantage Dok in Amsterdam!

We want to warmly thank everyone who has supported us with donations, help, encouragement, or in the countless other ways we were helped along the way. We are chomping at the bit to start making these plans a reality

Will you spread the word? Will you help people realize that Firestarter is coming? You can already sign your campaign up through our website. If you do so before October 25th we’ll proces it as soon as possible and include it in the platforms’ opening on the ABFA. Can’t make it to the opening on Friday? The silence before the storm

To the outside world, Firestarter has been quiet since the fall of 2022, but internally we’ve had quite a ride. Firestarter began its crowdfunding campaign to create a politically radical crowdfunding platform in February of 2022. This was the result of a long preliminary period of planning, brainstorming, making contacts and analyzing the situation around us.

The campaign went well, we were blessed with a lot of support from comrades around us, and by October 2022 Firestarter had received all the donations required to get started. At the same time we completed the process to create a legal entity for Firestarter, and most of the software required to run the platform we imagined was also completed at that time.

The sole obstacle blocking our full launch was getting a bank account. At the same time that we were gathering funds for this new platform, the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. With this war in view, the legislation regarding financial supervision changed, increasing the workload for banks. Supervision increased especially for crowdfunding platforms. Many banks had long waitlists or for a while stopped onboarding foundations and associations altogether. Especially for a crowdfunding platform such as Firestarter, it was very difficult to acquire a bank account and other financial services.

This meant that we were unsure when Firestarter would be able to launch. For that reason we opted not to set a new launch date, avoiding the risk of having to delay it again. All seemed quiet, but in the background we kept working to acquire the bank account and other financial services we needed to be able to launch.

And now we finally have it!

We are burning with joy to be able to announce that all the effort, all the help and support, all the trust invested in us by the people around us, all these things will finally start bearing the fruits we envision and that we’ve been working towards for such a long time.

Despite the long silence, we are no less excited than we were at the beginning! We look forward to helping provide a massive boost to the financial strength of our movements!
