FIVE Below shoppers will soon find doors locked at all 1,800 stores but only for a day.

The discount chain confirmed it will close every location for 24 hours later this month.

The U.S. Sun has confirmed Five Below and Dollar Tree’s plans for the holiday weekend.

The shutdown for Five Below is set for Easter Sunday, April 20.

This means Five Below locations across 44 states will go dark for the day.

Stores will resume regular operations on Monday, April 21.

The discount chain rarely closes all stores at once, making the Easter shutdown a notable move.

Five Below, based in Philadelphia, is popular for $5-and-under products in categories like toys, tech, candy, and beauty.

It has also expanded its “Five Beyond” section with items priced above $5.

DOLLAR TREE’S TURN

While Five Below pauses, Dollar Tree plans to stay open.

That positions Dollar Tree to capture shoppers who might otherwise head to Five Below for Easter deals.

Dollar Tree, which owns Family Dollar, confirmed to The U.S. Sun it will be operating on April 20.

MORE CLOSURES

Meanwhile, nearly 2,500 Aldi locations will also be closed on Easter Sunday.

Aldi typically shuts only three days a year: Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Retailers Open and Closed for Easter

Shoppers can generally expect the following retailers to be open and closed on Easter Sunday, which falls on April 20, 2025, this year:

Open for Easter:

  • CVS
  • Dollar General
  • Whole Foods
  • Home Depot
  • Kroger
  • Trader Joe’s
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
  • Dollar Tree

Closed:

  • Target
  • Costco
  • Aldi
  • Sam’s Club
  • Publix
  • JCPenney
  • Kohl’s
  • Macy’s
  • H-E-B
  • Michaels
  • Lowe’s
  • Best Buy
  • Marshalls

Easter Sunday hours will vary by store and location. To avoid any surprises, be sure to check with your local store for their specific Easter hours.

The grocer is urging customers to plan ahead and shop in advance of the holiday.

Other retailers are expected to follow suit, though not all have posted 2025 hours yet.

Last Easter, JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Marshalls, Michaels, and Target all closed their doors.

On the flip side, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, and Kroger stayed open with regular Sunday hours.

Retailers that remain open often see a boost in foot traffic from unexpected closures elsewhere.

Five Below’s website will stay active during the 24-hour store shutdown.

Shoppers are encouraged to check store hours in advance to avoid last-minute surprises.
