Walmart China has appointed former Alibaba executive Liu Peng as president of its Sam’s Club format, effective immediately, the company announced on October 27. Liu will report directly to Christina Zhu, President and CEO of Walmart China.
Jane Ewing, who has been serving as acting president of the Sam’s Club format, will return to Walmart International at the end of this year after completing her assignment.
Walmart said the appointment reflects its continued investment and strategic upgrade in the Chinese market. Liu previously held senior roles at Alibaba, including President of Tmall Global and head of its B2C retail business group. [TechNode reporting]
