Last month the Framework Laptop 12 began shipping as an upgrade-friendly, convertible 2-in-1 laptop that is friendly with Linux as we’ve come to expect out of Framework Computer devices. The launch-day Linux testing at Phoronix of the Framework 12 was done out-of-the-box on Ubuntu Linux with the defaults on it and the other comparison laptops tested. But as we’ve shown with recent Intel and AMD laptops, ACPI Platform Profile adjustments can make a significant impact on bettering the performance or extending battery life with more power efficient operation. For those wondering about the impact of the platform profiles on Framework Laptop 12, here are some power and performance benchmarks.

The Framework Laptop 12 review unit supplied by Framework Computer was equipped with the Intel Core i5 1334U as their highest-tier option for this convertible laptop over the Core i3 1315U as their other current option. The Core i5 1334U features ten cores made up of just two P cores and eight E cores for in turn having a total of 12 threads and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.6GHz. This Raptor Lake processor has a 15 Watt base power rating and maximum turbo power of 55 Watts.

Curious about how much further headroom there was with the Framework Laptop 12 if adjusting the EPP value to performance, I ran some performance profile benchmarks to see the impact on performance and in turn on the CPU power consumption too. Similarly, the power EPP was tested as well for seeing the power saver mode for how much benefit there was with the Framework Laptop 12 for enhancing the power efficiency.

Framework Laptop 12 with Ubuntu Linux

These are intended as just some standalone benchmarks for those wondering about the impact of this easy tuning for the Framework Laptop 12 under Linux. This round of Framework Laptop 12 benchmarks were done on Ubuntu 25.04 with the Linux 6.14 kernel, which works well for the Raptor Lake SoC and the Framework Laptop 12 at large. The CPU peak frequency, CPU power consumption, and CPU temperatures were monitored as well during this benchmarking process.
