A BRAND new channel has landed on Freeview for kids just in time for the half-term.

But it’s not the only addition – there’s something for grown-ups too.

The move follows a number of channel changes and closures in recent years.

Where children are concerned, there was the big loss of CITV in 2023.

And before that on premium platforms like Sky and Virgin we bid farewell to the Disney Channel as well.

More recently, local channel Notts TV bowed out for the final time.

But there are some fresh faces for millions of Freeview watchers across the UK as of today.

The first is Cartoon Classics, which can be found by tapping 214 on your remote.

As the name suggests, you can see some retro animated shows, such as Danger Mouse, Count Duckula and The Smurfs.

The other big new arrival for Freeview is Wedotv Movies.

This airs some lesser-known films and older titles from over the years.

It sits on the TV guide at number 98.

Both channels are hybrid, meaning you’ll need a broadband connection to your TV for them to work.

And you’ll also need to rescan your box or TV too.

There’s only one other noteworthy change to Freeview this month, concerning Gems TV.

The long-running jewellery shopping channel has been renamed to Gemporia but it sits in the same spot as before, 45.

Get more quality TV for free

By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor

If you’re tired of paying out on several streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ then there are a growing number of free alternatives around.

While many of these alternatives have been filled with obscure content, more big names like Sky have got on board in recent years offering some quality stuff, which is largely archive but still entertaining.

As well as UKTV, Sony and 5 are among the other players getting involved.

If you haven’t already, give Pluto TV a go, it’s available on pretty much all devices including Fire TV Sticks.

On there you’ll find channels from MTV, with Catfish and Geordie Shore.

Some of the classics are real gems too – I found myself watching long-forgotten episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch the other day.
