If you own a Garmin Forerunner 965 that has recently crashed or is detecting incidents long after you’ve stopped training, Garmin has a software update with your name on it.
The patch, which rolled out on September 18, is version 20.29 of GarminOS for the Forerunner 965 and is available for manual download now. The company confirmed that it fixes two specific issues that users have recently encountered, namely:
- Fixed incident detection remains active after activity
- Fixed rare potential crash when starting activity
The Garmin Forerunner 965 is one of the best Garmin watches on the market and a significant upgrade over the Forerunner 265. It has a battery life of 23 days and is one of the best running watches available. If yours is starting to experience the issues above, here is how to fix the software.
Garmin Forerunner 965 no longer crashes
To download software update 20.29 and resolve the crashing issues of your Forerunner 965, go to Menu > System > Software Update > Check for Updates.
After downloading the update, you may need to re-sync your data with the Garmin Connect app. If that’s the case, simply hold your watch near your phone, open the app, tap the pill-shaped menu button, and then open the settings with the gear icon. Select the phone and Bluetooth icon, and then tap sync.
Aside from the bugs in the software updates, there is also good news for Garmin users in the form of a bunch of new features for its watches and bike computers. Garmin is releasing updates for the Epix Gen 2, Fenix 7, Forerunner, Vivoactive and Venu 3 Series smartwatches and for the Edge 540, Edge 840 and Edge 1040 bike computers in September.
New features include updates to Garmin Coach, sharing capabilities for Garmin Connect and warnings for hazards ahead. There are also new Pool Swim metrics and a new GroupRide feature that lets you send messages, share your live location and view incident detection alerts. There’s even a leaderboard for the competitive.
