“CBS Mornings” co-anchor Gayle King, singer Katy Perry and Lauren Sánchez will be among an all-woman crew blasting off on Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin as part of what’s being called an “historic” space flight.
NASA rocket scientist Aishe Bowe, producer Kerianne Flynn and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen will also be aboard for the spring launch, Blue Origin announced on Thursday.
The company credited Sánchez, a philanthropist and Bezos’s fiancée, with bringing the mission together, saying in a statement, “She is honored to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come.”
Other famous names have also made the voyage to the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space, with Blue Origin. “Star Trek” actor William Shatner and “Good Morning America’s” Michael Strahan both boarded separate trips in 2021.
Bezos founded Blue Origin in 2000.
The launch will mark the 11th flight as part of Blue Origin’s New Shepard program. The company noted that the flight marks the first flight crew comprised of all women since 1963.
