Gemini 3 Brought Over 100 Million More Users to Google’s AI Tools

Google’s Gemini AI saw another jump in usage at the end of 2025, taking its average monthly user base to over 750 million people.

That’s 100 million more people since the brand’s last reporting in November. Soon after sharing that data, where Gemini had 650 million active users, Google introduced its latest Gemini 3 model, which contributed to the brand’s gains.

Gemini’s biggest rival, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, shares its active user data by weekly users rather than monthly, making it difficult to compare the two platforms.

OpenAI said in September last year, and reiterated in January, that it has over 700 million weekly active users on ChatGPT. It’s unclear how many of Google’s users return to the Gemini platform each week to use its AI tools, or how many ChatGPT users only interact once every few weeks.

These results are a strong end to Gemini’s year, which saw Google go viral with Nano Banana Pro image-making, double its AI user base, and cement itself as a more credible threat to OpenAI’s tools.

Google also has big AI plans for 2026. In January, Google announced a deal with Apple to integrate Gemini models into Siri, Apple’s voice assistant. Apple recently announced it has over 2.5 billion active devices worldwide, so installing Gemini models on even a small percentage of those devices will further drive Google’s user data.

Elsewhere in Google’s business, the brand exceeded $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time. Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, used the results to celebrate success across many other aspects of the business, including cloud, services, subscriptions, and YouTube.

Disclosure: Ziff Davis, PCMag’s parent company, filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in April 2025, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.
