Talking about artificial intelligence inevitably leads us to think of virtual assistants, generative models and algorithms that process huge amounts of data. But when we try to imagine a future where AI interacts with the physical worldthe thing is complicated. Robots that understand orders, react naturally and execute precision tasks continue to look more science fiction than reality. However, Google Deepmind is determined to change that, and its new bet, Gemini Robotics, is a key step in that direction.

Gemini Robotics Robotics, two models designed to provide robots with greater understanding and adaptation capacity in complex environments. Based on the powerful Gemini 2.0, these systems combine vision, language and action, which allows them to interpret orders, respond precisely and perform tasks without prior training. This advance is a significant change in robotics, bringing it closer to human interaction.

One of Gemini Robotics’s most striking aspects is his ability to perform physical tasks that, until now, were difficult to automate. In the tests performed, the robots have proven to be able to bend Origami figures, organize desks following verbal instructions, wind headphones cables and even light balls in mini basketball baskets. These skills reflect an important advance in the skill and adaptability of robots, which opens new possibilities in sectors such as logistics, manufacturing and personal assistance.

Deepmind has also announced a collaboration with Apptronika startup specialized in humanoid robotics. The objective of this alliance is to develop versatile and autonomous robots capable of integrating into various environments, from factories to hospitals. The combination of Gemini Robotics intelligence with latest generation hardware could mark a turning point in the adoption of robots in the industrial and domestic field.

However, this advance also raises challenges in terms of safety and control. As robots acquire more autonomy, concerns arise about their improper use or impact on the labor market. To address these risks, Google has implemented a multilevel security approachwhich includes content protections, industrial standards and a “constitutional” system to regulate robots behavior and avoid potentially dangerous actions.

The development of Gemini Robotics represents One more step towards the creation of general purpose robotscapable of acting with greater independence and adapting to unforeseen situations. While there is still a way to go before we see these systems implemented in everyday life, the combination of advanced artificial intelligence and functional robotics brings us closer to a future where machines not only process information, but also interact with the physical world effectively. Are we really prepared for this change?
