Version 14.0 of Android Auto is being deployed on all compatible devices, after a few weeks in beta. As often with this kind of update, do not expect an overhaul of the interface or to new spectacular functions. The bulk of the work takes place behind the scenes: bug corrections, improved stability, and small optimizations.

That said, some visual details change. The microphone icon, which was used to launch Google Assistant so far, has for example swapped its familiar colors for an all white, more sober design. A minor change? Maybe. But some see it as a clear signal: Google is preparing to replace assistant by Gemini, his new artificial intelligence launched at the end of 2023.
For a while, Google has pushed Gemini everywhere in the Android universe: on phones, in applications, in web services … But not yet in the car. Android Auto seemed to lagging up on this point. Version 14.0 suggests that it will no longer last.
Code lines identified by 9to5Google mention Gemini directly. One of them says that ” Gemini is now the personal assistant in your car “, While others speak of user experience feedback or messages of messages. In short, Google is laying the foundations, even if nothing is active for the general public.
For the moment, no official calendar has been given. It will probably be necessary to wait for the Google I/O conference, scheduled for May 20, to find out more. But given the state of Google Assistant – often criticized for its hazardous responses, especially by car -, many users hope that Gemini will do better.
Another index on the future of Android Auto: Google tests in parallel the possibility of playing certain Android games directly on the on -board screen. There too, it will be for later, in a future version.
If you want to install Android Auto 14.0, you can do it via the Play Store. You will not necessarily see visible changes, but the machine is underway. For Google, this update is a step. For users, this is a signal: something more ambitious happens. You will just have to be a little patient … and hope that Gemini will really be able to listen to when talking to him.
