It’s been a busy time for announcements and here’s another to keep abreast of. XGIMI has launched two new portable projectors in the MoGo 4 and MoGo 4 Laser.

Building on from the MoGo 3, the MoGo 4 models continue the combination of portability and performance with its “coffee-cup-sized for factor”, built-in sound system; and new for this series, built-in battery life.

The MoGo 4 and MoGo 4 Laser are both on sale now (June 12th), and they’ll retail for £509 / $499 and £679 / $799 respectively.

Will either manage to make it into our best projector and best portable projector lists? We’ll be looking to review both in the near future.

It’s a vibe

With the new MoGo projectors, XGIMI is pursuing more of “fashion-forward” approach (the Paris launch party for the projectors includes a fashion catwalk).

The mention of glamping and immersive sound-and-light installations in the announcement should give you an idea of the audience XGIMI wants to attract.

But let’s delve into the technical details. Both projectors support 1080p Full HD resolution (no HDR here), with the MoGo 4 featuring 450 ISO lumens of brightness, and backed up with a dual 6W Harman/Kardon sound system. It can project an image up to 120-inches (that’s three metres).

There’s a detachable lanyard for transporting the pico projector, an infrared mini remote and hand gesture support for control, while the MoGo 4 comes with Magnetic Creative Filters to set the mood, ranging from ripple (meditative), dreamscape (ethereal) and lunar (calming).

It can even be turned into a standalone Bluetooth speaker that pulses with light that’s in sync with your music.

Battery life is only 2.5 hours in Eco mode, or up two six hours of music with the stand and up to 5 hours with the PowerBase stand.

The Mogo 4 Laser is not too dissimilar to the ‘standard’ MoGo 4. Battery life is the same, control is the same; as is the rest of the feature set.

The integration of triple laser technology marks this model down as less for the Millenial crowd for more for those who want a better home cinema performance for a still affordable price.

Brightness is boosted to 550 ISO Lumens, which should make it a brighter performer than our current favourite, Samsung FreeStyle Gen 2 projector.

XGIMI says it boasts an “industry-leading” 110% BT.2020 colour gamut with 1000:1 native contrast ratio to delivery clarity and vibrant colours with depth.

Google TV with official Netflix support

Both projectors rely on Google TV for entertainment and smarts, and built-in Google TV also means that these XGIMI projectors come with official Netflix support. That’s not always the case with portable projectors as some have uncomfortably tried to crowbar Netflix into its app offering.

There’s Wi-Fi 5 support for streaming , as well as Bluetooth 5.1, while the projectors also feature HDMI ARC for connecting an external sound system and USB ports for other means of accessing content.

There are also some extras you can take advanatage of, with XGIMI offering the PowerBase Stand that also acts as a battery bank with 20,000mAh of power to double the projectors’ battery life.

XGIMI also offers a 70-inch outdoor screen as an accessory if you want to level up the outdoor garden performance.

You can get these accessories in a bundle with the MoGo 4 and PowerBase Stand priced at £579 / $549 and the MoGo 4 Laser with the stand and outdoor screen going for £799 / $899.
