GIMP 3.2-RC2 is out today as what could be the last release candidate of GIMP 3.2 before its stable release. This leading open-source image editor/creation alternative to the likes of Adobe Photoshop continues becoming much more refined and polished in the GIMP 3 series.
Prior to releasing GIMP 3.0 there was a goal to ship GIMP 3.2 within one year and it looks like they will make it. GIMP 3.2 RC1 came in November and 3.2 RC2 out today for what could be the final release candidate. It depends how the GIMP 3.2 RC2 testing pans out and the bug reports to come, but if all looks good, they could go straight to the stable 3.2.0 release without needing any further RCs.
As for the changes found in GIMP 3.2 RC2, the highlights of today’s release includes:
– The prior limit of Clipboard Brush and Clipboard Pattern to 1024 pixels was lifted and is now at 8192 pixels for 64-bit builds of GIMP.
– GIMP 3.0 RC2 now allows Save or Export options to be used when there are no layers selected.
– Better handling when importing SVG paths.
– The Paint Select Tool has been recently enhanced for the UI and the performance of this tool.
– Improving the start-up time of GIMP, particularly for systems with large quantities of font files.
– The Adobe PSD importer now loads legacy Outer Glow layer effects.
– A Bash completion file is now included in GIMP.
– Three security fixes for GIMP image plug-ins.
– Various UI/UX refinements.
