GNOME 50 is out today, on-schedule and just in time for being the default desktop of the likes of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and Fedora Workstation 44.

GNOME 50 has many incremental improvements for further polishing the modern GNOME Shell desktop. The GNOME Files (Nautilus) file manager is faster than before and with better thumbnailing of files, parental controls / digital well being support has improved, various accessibility improvements, improved HDR / color management support, better VRR and fractional scaling support, improved performance for those using the official NVIDIA graphics driver stack, and much more. Especially for those interested in variable refresh rate and HDR usage, GNOME 50 is a big step forward.
