Almost two years after its release on PS5 (exclusively), God of War Ragnarökthe sequel to the 2018 reboot on PS4 is finally arrived on PC to the delight of players. Of course, this is of the latest versionoffering a whole range of technical and graphical improvements optimized for current PCs. But, in addition to that, we have the right to a new feature long desired by PS5 players: the ability to properly censor Atreus.
Shut up, boy.
The license needs no introduction God of War. Since its arrival on PS2 in 2005, we have had the right to many opus which were all, almost flawless. In 2018, the reboot on PS4 further enhanced the license. Its sequel, God of War Ragnarök on PS5 in 2022 confirmed Santa Monica Studio’s mastery over this new, more narrative formula and offered us a high-class game (which we rated 9/10 on WorldOfSoftware).
Despite all the qualities of the title, there is one black spot on the board: Atreus. If the latter were endearing in the first gameit quickly becomes unbearable in the second. Although this is wanteddue to his age, and the period of adolescence which makes him stubborn, rebellious and arrogant, there is still some rather delicate passages where the player only wants one thing: to make him shut his clapper. Especially when he doesn’t repeat every ten seconds clues and instructions to follow to continue the adventure, sometimes going as far as spoil the resolution of some puzzles.
Good news, in the PC version of God of War Ragnarökit will be possible to censor our son and all of our companions thanks to new settings in options to reduce Atreus’ chatter and clues that are given to players when they haven’t asked for them. Hopefully this option will now will be coming soon to PS5 via a new update.
Other new features include audio descriptions for in-game cutscenes and a set of streamer gifs for use on Twitch or YouTube. You also get NVIDIA and AMD upscaling, with support for ultrawide monitors.
