Google Gemini’s New Button Helps You Get to Simple Answers Faster

Ever find that searching an AI chatbot for simple questions takes longer than expected? It’s likely because you’re using a deep-thinking model. Google is introducing a new button to help those in-depth processes produce faster responses when you’re asking a simple question.

If you’re using Google Gemini’s Pro or Thinking models, you’ll now see a button called “Answer now” next to the description as it’s generating a response.

If you press this button, it will skip to the fastest possible answer while continuing to use the model you’ve already selected. The functionality was first spotted by 9to5Google, which saw it rolling out to both the Android and iPhone apps as well as the web version.

Pressing the button will tell you it’s “Skipping in-depth thinking” before replacing that with its final answer. The idea is that you can continue using more intensive AI models in Gemini for the shortest answers without the hassle of switching between models.

You won’t see this option appear if you’re already using Google’s Gemini Fast model. However, 9to5Google spotted that Gemini hints that it isn’t switching to the faster alternative when you press the button; it’ll instead use your currently selected model to produce a faster, less in-depth result.

Last week, Gemini introduced new ways to better personalize responses by connecting them to other Google services, such as Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube.

The feature is currently available in beta for all Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the US. You can turn the feature on by heading to Gemini’s Settings > Personal Intelligence > Connected Apps.

Future additions to the tool are expected to include Google Calendar, Drive, and other Workspace apps, such as Docs and Sheets.
