While ensuring technology is used correctly, YouTube embraces artificial intelligence. Google offers one of the best technologies for creating videos called Veo. And, gradually, the Mountain View firm is equipping its video platform with features that rely on this generator. At the start of the year, in his annual publication, Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube, announced the arrival of a new tool which, thanks to artificial intelligence, will allow creators to generate videos with their digital doubles (in other words, deepfakes for entertainment).

And this new thing is coming now. Google has already published an explanatory page, which indicates that the new feature is gradually rolling out and which shows how to use it, if it is already available. “Avatars allow you to create a digital version of yourself so that you can produce videos that look like you and have your voice, in complete safety”we read on this page. First, the user must take a “live selfie”, which will allow YouTube’s AI to create this digital double.

Then, once this duplicate is created, the user can use a prompt to generate video sequences with it. For example, we could write “I fly high in the sky, above the clouds, and I say I can fly!”. But that’s not all, since it will also be possible to remix the video of another creator, by integrating its digital double into this video, if it is eligible for this functionality.

AI videos that will be clearly identified

Unfortunately, Google doesn’t say when this feature will be available to all creators. But the firm explains that to benefit from it, you must be over 18 years old and be “the owner of an existing YouTube channel”. The possibility of generating double digital sound videos with artificial intelligence is offered on the YouTube and YouTube Create applications.

On YouTube, if available, the feature is accessed by going to the Create or “+” button in the app, then tapping the icon that resembles the Gemini logo in the corner.

According to the explanations of our colleagues at 9to5Google, this functionality allows you to create photorealistic videos, with a maximum duration of 8 seconds for a sequence. Otherwise, Google specifies that all videos created by this tool will be clearly declared as being generated by AI. This will be indicated by a visible watermark, as well as digital markers like SynthID or C2PA.
