Alongside its new Pixel 10 series, Google has unveiled its alternative to Apple’s MagSafe, with Pixelsnap.
The Qi2-compatible and magnetic standard promises faster and more secure wireless charging speeds for the new series of handsets. But what really is Pixelsnap and how does it work? Is Google’s charging standard the same as Apple’s?
We explain everything we know about Google’s Pixelsnap below, including how it works, the accessories available and its compatibility with other devices.
What is Pixelsnap?
Pixelsnap is the name of Google’s new wireless charging accessories that are designed to pair with the entire Pixel 10 series, including the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. All Pixelsnap accessories sport Qi2 technology which is a magnetic standard which enables faster charging speeds and a secure attachment too.
While you can expect Pixelsnap accessories to generally offer speeds of up to 15W, the Pixel 10 Pro XL benefits from up to 25W when paired with a 35W or higher USB-C power adapter.
Finally, it’s not just the Pixel 10 series that Pixelsnap accessories support. In fact, any Qi2-certified device will work with a Pixelsnap. While you can expect speeds of up to 15W, this will vary depending on the exact specifications.

What are Pixelsnap accessories?
At its annual Made by Google event, Google unveiled a list of Pixelsnap accessories that are optimised for the Pixel 10 series. These accessories include:
- Pixelsnap Charger or Pixelsnap Charger and Stand
- Pixelsnap Ring Stand for hands-free viewing
- Google’s own Pixel 10 cases which are all compatible with Pixelsnap accessories
Alongside the Pixelsnap accessories, Google also unveiled a 67W dual port charger, which is the fastest of its kind for Pixel handsets. The charger is able to identify when a Pixel is plugged in and prioritises charging, while still powering a second device.

Does the Pixelsnap Charger work with earlier Pixel phones?
Pixelsnap accessories, including the Pixelsnap Charger, are designed for the Pixel 10 series and any Qi2-certified devices. Although the Pixel 9 series and older does support wireless, magnetic attachment, as they support the Qi1 charging standard, the handsets lack the magnetic alignment feature of Qi2, which Google explains may result in inconsistent or no charging at all.
Can I use the Apple MagSafe charger to charge my Pixel phone?
Moving over from an iPhone and don’t want to get rid of all your accessories? Fortunately, an Apple MagSafe charger is compatible with all phones within the Pixel 10 series, although there are a few caveats to keep in mind.
Firstly, if you’re using a 2024 Qi-2-certified Apple MagSafe charger, then you’ll see charging speeds of up to 15W. If, however, you’re using an Apple MagSafe charger from 2020, then the Pixel 10 series will only charge up to 5W.
