Google says 1 billion RCS messages are sent daily in the US following iPhone adoption

After a years-long wait, Apple finally added RCS messaging support to the iPhone last year, and that’s resulted in over 1 billion RCS messages being sent every day in the US alone between both Android and iOS devices.

Even before Apple adopted RCS, the tech was being used quite widely across Android. In November 2023, Google confirmed that its Messages app – the main portal for RCS on Android – had amassed over a billion monthly active users.

Fast-forward to 2025, post-iPhone adoption, and RCS is being used more than ever.

Google says that, just in the United States over a 28-day (average) period, users are sending “more than a billion” RCS messages daily.

Over the last few years, we’ve been focused on improving how people connect, no matter what
phone they have. That’s why we helped make RCS the messaging standard for Android and
iOS. Now, in the U.S. alone, there are more than a billion RCS messages sent every day (based
on an average of the last 28 days). This means more people have been able to send
high-quality photos and videos, and add someone to the group chat, without it breaking.*

That’s still a ways behind the estimated number of SMS/MMS messages sent daily in the US, estimated to be around 6 billion on average, but it’s still a huge figure, especially as there are still US carriers that don’t support RCS on the iPhone yet – Google Fi was only added to the list in March.

Are you using RCS on a daily basis?
