It comes as the parent company plans to shutter dozens of underperforming stores across the country.

Operating nearly 262 stores across seven states including Washington D.C., Harris Teeter is a Kroger subsidiary.

Harris Teeter is set to close down all targeted stores this summer.

The chain is looking to close the stores in the first wave by July 20, with the others set to be wiped out by August 4.

Each impacted Harris Teeter store will displace around 100-200 workers, who are being offered transfers to other locations.

It comes as Kroger looks to close 60 stores over the next 18 months in reaction to the uncertain consumer environment.

A news release said: “In the first quarter, Kroger recognized an impairment charge of $100 million related to the planned closing of approximately 60 stores over the next 18 months.

“As a result of these store closures, Kroger expects a modest financial benefit.

“Kroger is committed to reinvesting these savings back into the customer experience, and as a result, this will not impact full-year guidance.

“Kroger will offer roles in other stores to all associates currently employed at affected stores.”

CEO Ron Sargent added: “We’re going to move with speed, focus on our core business, and run great stores.

Kroger has stayed fairly ambiguous around its mass closure plans, which has left local media tom report on isolated shutting stores coming up.

Two stores in Texas recently closed, including one in Dickinson on June 10 and another in The Woodlands on May 6.

Brad Bailey, chair of The Woodlands Township board of directors, said in a statement: “While this is unfortunate news, we have seen this coming for some time.

“Shopping has drastically changed since the ’80s and ’90s when our village shopping centers were built.

“It’s time for us to reimagine our village shopping centers to meet the retail needs of our community today.”

But in the city of McKinney, Texas, it is unclear when a Kroger there will be gone, but we know it will be.

McKinney is located about 33 miles north of Texas.

Upcoming Kroger closures include one in Virginia and one in Tennessee, both slated for September 19.

The Virginia closure ism located in Abingdon, and the Tennessee closure will target Kingsport.

It is important to note that it is unclear if these locations are a part of Kroger’s 60 store plan.
