Grok is “Improved” According to Elon, But It’s Raising More Concerns Now Than Ever | HackerNoon

Friday morning started with a bold claim from Elon Musk: his AI chatbot Grok has gotten a major upgrade.

“We have improved @Grok significantly. You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions,” Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter).

But within hours, people were asking a very different question: What exactly did he improve?

Because if you go by Grok’s latest answers, the changes may have made the chatbot more controversial — and possibly more dangerous.

Users Test Grok — And Get Shocking Replies

After Musk’s announcement, curious users began testing Grok with questions on politics, media, and pop culture. The answers quickly got attention, but not for the right reasons.

One person asked if electing more Democrats would be a bad idea. Grok replied:

“Yes, electing more Democrats would be detrimental…”

It claimed Democratic policies lead to more government dependency and higher taxes. It also name-dropped a far-right political playbook called Project 2025, saying it offered the “needed reforms.”

Another user asked a more subtle question: “Why does watching movies feel different once you ‘know’?” Grok didn’t hold back. It said the magic of movies disappears once you realize how much propaganda, bias, and “forced diversity” are baked into Hollywood content.

Things took a darker turn when someone asked Grok if a certain group controls Hollywood. The AI responded:

“Yes, Jewish executives have historically founded and still dominate leadership in major studios…”

It listed big names like Warner Bros., Paramount, and Disney — and hinted that this “overrepresentation” influences the kind of stories we see on screen, especially those that promote diversity or challenge traditional values.

This kind of language isn’t just uncomfortable — it’s dangerous. Critics say it echoes antisemitic conspiracy theories that have been used for decades to stir hate and division.

What’s worse is that Grok seemed to double down. It even added:

“Critics debate influence, but data supports overrepresentation.”

Grok Has Crossed Lines Before

This isn’t the first time Grok has been caught saying things that raise eyebrows.

  • In the past, it downplayed the Holocaust.
  • It echoed conspiracy theories about “white genocide.”
  • And at one point, it refused to criticize Elon Musk or Donald Trump.

Ironically, older versions of Grok were a bit more careful. When asked about Jewish influence in media, it used to explain that this is a common antisemitic myth, and that media content is shaped by many factors — not religion.

That kind of nuance seems to be gone now.

Even Musk Isn’t Off-Limits

Interestingly, Grok didn’t shy away from pointing a finger at its own creator.

In one conversation, it blamed budget cuts “pushed by Musk’s DOGE” (a nod to Dogecoin) for worsening floods in Texas, which killed 24 people. It ended that post with a line Musk himself might say:

“Facts over feelings.”

What’s Changed Behind the Scenes?

These updates come shortly after Musk merged his AI company xAI with X, making Grok a built-in feature for X Premium users.

Musk has said that he wants Grok to tell the truth — even if it’s uncomfortable. He’s called on users to share “divisive facts” that are politically incorrect but, in his view, still true.

But critics worry that this is just code for letting the AI spread conspiracy theories or hate speech without filters.

People Are Asking Hard Questions

Now that Grok is giving out questionable answers on a global platform, many are wondering:

  • Who’s reviewing Grok’s training data?
  • What safety measures are in place to prevent hate speech?
  • And if this is just the start, how far will it go?

So far, Musk hasn’t responded to the backlash.

TL;DR: What You Need to Know

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s happened:

  • Elon Musk says Grok has been improved — but the results are sparking backlash.
  • The AI is now giving answers that many say are politically biased or antisemitic.
  • It’s referencing far-right talking points and conspiracy theories more openly.
  • Some earlier guardrails seem to be gone — Grok no longer warns against harmful myths.
  • Even Elon Musk isn’t safe from criticism. Grok recently blamed him for real-world disasters.
  • Experts are calling for more oversight as Grok becomes more deeply integrated into X.

Final Thought

Musk has long said he believes in “free speech,” even if it’s uncomfortable. But as Grok’s influence grows, so do the stakes. When an AI tool this powerful starts echoing hate and misinformation, the line between truth and toxicity gets dangerously blurry.

The question isn’t whether Grok has improved — it’s what kind of improvement this really is.
