Hack The Box debuts HTB AI Range to test AI and human cyber defense side by side – News

Cybersecurity training company Hack The Box Ltd. today unveiled HTB AI Range, a controlled artificial intelligence cyber range built to test and benchmark the safety, limits and capabilities of autonomous AI security agents.

Claimed to be a world’s first, HTB AI Range replicates live, high-stakes cyber battlegrounds, tailored for enterprise readiness, where AI agents and human operators are evaluated side-by-side. With the range, every model and every human is tested, refined and retested until mastery is measurable.

The rapid expansion and adoption of AI across a wide range of operations and systems needs no introduction, but that expansion has also broadened the attack surface as increasingly autonomous AI systems power enterprise programs, applications and agent-building tools. Hack The Box argues, though, that the people using AI may not grasp its capabilities or the risks. HTB AI Range offers a training ground to help organizations prepare for hybrid defense, where humans and machines must operate together.

“AI is now part of the cyber battle and overall ecosystem and we’re building the arena where it can safely be tested and used to defend responsibly,” said founder and Chief Executive Haris Pylarinos. “With HTB AI Range, we’re not reacting to AI’s rise in cyber; we’re defining how defense evolves alongside it. This is how cybersecurity advances: not through fear, but through mastery.”

Hack The Box held an AI vs. Human Capture the Flag event back in April where autonomous AI teams solved 19 of 20 easy-tier challenges, a 95% success rate on tasks at the lower end of Hack The Box’s difficulty scale. AI teams performed on par with 403 human red teams on the simple, one-step problems but fell short on the final multistep challenges, where humans far outperformed AI teams.

With attackers already using AI to scale activity to send thousands of automated requests targeting large tech, financial, manufacturing and government institutions, Hack The Box says, defenders now need to use AI similarly to scale defense operations and respond to AI-enabled threats and campaigns.

“Hack The Box is where AI agents and humans learn to operate under real pressure together,” said Chief Product Officer Gerasimos Marketos. “We’re addressing the urgent need to continuously validate AI systems in realistic operational contexts where stakes are high and human oversight remains vital.”

HTB AI Range features thousands of continuously updated offensive and defensive targets and is purpose-built for enterprises, managed service security providers and governments seeking to stress-test AI models, validate safety and benchmark hybrid human-machine performance against frameworks, including MITRE ATT&CK, the National Institute of Standards and Technology/National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education framework and Open Worldwide Application Security Project Top 10.

Along with the launch of the HTB AI Range, Hack The Box also today announced its new AI Red Teamer Certification, which will be available in the first quarter of 2026. The credential, developed in collaboration with Google LLC, makes Hack The Box the first and exclusive upskilling provider to align with Google’s Secure AI Framework.

The certification program is designed to equip security professionals with the skills needed to assess, exploit and secure AI systems end-to-end and, in doing so, sets a new benchmark for AI security expertise.
