Hands-on with Anker’s new 20,100mAh battery bank: 220W output, compact design – 9to5Mac

Anker is back at it again with a new 20,100mAh power bank, under its Anker Prime brand. This power bank has three ports, offers up to 220W of output, and comes in a pretty compact package. It’s available for purchase on Amazon for $129.

First impressions

A pretty popular trend on recently released charging gear has been the inclusion of an information display, and the new Anker 20K battery bank is no exception. On the display, you can see the battery percentage, total output, whether or not the battery is operating in an ideal temperature, and more.

It offers two USB-C ports and one USB-A port, with a total of 220W of max output. One USB-C port is capable of 140W out, the other is capable of 100W out, and USB-A can output up to 22.5W. So, if you wanted to fast charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro, for instance, you could do that. It offers 72Wh of capacity, so that should get you pretty far when recharging the 100Wh battery in the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

To be honest, I do kinda miss having an integrated cable. Other Anker batteries released this year have offered that. Granted, the fact that this battery can output up to 220W is certainly unique – so this is still worth considering despite that drawback.

It comes with a carrying pouch and a braided USB-C cable, which certainly is nice. It weighs about a pound, so it isn’t unbearable, though it does have a bit of heft. The main redeeming quality is the fact that it can easily fit in the palm of your hand. It also has an app you can use, which allows you to customize the display and adjust the power output.

Wrap up

All in all, if a power bank that can power your MacBook without a sweat interests you – the Anker Prime 20K is a worthy option. It can also charge your iPhone multiple times over, making it a great travel companion.

While the Anker Prime 20K is listed for $179.99, it’s currently on sale for $50 off during the holidays. You can purchase it on Amazon or from Anker directly for $129.
