The so -called message sent by Emmanuel Macron is written in a familiar tone, and invites the recipients to contact the head of state directly via the signal encrypted messaging application: ” Send me a message now on the signal application. My signal number is +33 7… Thank you. Emmanuel Macron ».

It is once again a “smishing” scam, a variant of phishing (phishing) which uses SMS to deceive the victims and extract them from sensitive information or money. Faced with this growing threat, the Élysée published on Friday March 14, 2025 an official warning on its X account, calling citizens to the greatest vigilance and recalling good practices to adopt in the face of this type of fraudulent messages: ” Never click on a doubtful link, always check the sender number and never share your personal information ».

This scam campaign is taken very seriously by the French authorities, especially since it exploits the notoriety of President Macron to credibility the trap. If some may smile at the grotesque character of the message, the consequences can be serious for those who fall into the panel.

The phenomenon is not isolated because for several years, cybercrime has exploded in France and elsewhere. The criminals compete in imagination to deceive their victims: false judicial summons, CPF scams, false fines or even false messages related to the vital card and parcel deliveries. Recently, even Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister of French Foreign Affairs, was the victim of an attempt at similar phishing via secure messaging. Fortunately for him, no major flaw was detected after he clicked on a malicious link …

The authorities recall that any person receiving this type of fraudulent SMS can report the numbers concerned with the official platform dedicated to the fight against unwanted calls and SMS by composing 33700.
