The automotive world is experiencing a big change, that of the transition to electric. Although this change in behavior takes time, manufacturers, particularly French, have understood that the future will involve these cars with more environmentally friendly engines.
To appeal to the general public, Renault has already developed its 100% electric R5. The legendary model has just returned to the brand’s dealerships, more than 40 years after its launch. On this occasion, the diamond group has just launched another model, also all electric.
Renault wants to build on the success of the R4 in the 60s and 70s. After having brilliantly resurrected the R5, it was almost logical to see the French company arrive at the Mondial de l’Auto Portes de Versailles with this car in its luggage . In detail, the car is slightly longer than an R5 (22 centimeters separate the two models).
On the engine side, Renault is banking on the same group as with the R5. There is still talk of a 120 horsepower motor and a 40 kWh battery for the version called “urban autonomy” which promises a little over 300 kilometers on a single charge. A version with a little more endurance will also be marketed by Renault under the name “comfort autonomy”. It should exceed the 400 kilometers on the WLTP cycle.
A copy of the R5?
If the R5 had been praised for the risk-taking it represented when it was released, we cannot give the same praise to this new version of the legendary 4 L. Renault seems to have found the recipe that works and wants to make it last . The brand will therefore reuse 68% of the parts already present on its new R5 to install them in its R4.
The two cars will be like twin sisters, which only the design will be able to distinguish. Let’s also hope that Price is a differentiator between the two cars. Today the R5 is sold from €29,490. If the selling price of the R4 has not yet been revealed by the diamond brand, it should be located in the same wavelengths.
The arrival of more affordable versions of the R5 at the start of next year (around 26,000 euros) should help the R4 in its launch. In any case, the car should remain more expensive, the difference between two equivalent models would be a thousand euros according to our colleagues at BFM (article available in source).
