Google has issued a serious warning for users where dangerous wave of phishing attacks are targeting Gmail accounts. The scariest part of this scam is that these malicious emails are coming from verified addresses that users are unable to identify. In first attempt it seems these emails are coming from the addresses that are verified, but after sometime as soon as the phishing attack happens it delivers that it is designed to steal user’s data.

What’s Happening?

According to Google, cybercriminals and attackers have found a new way to exploit your valuable data via an email verification system. This allows phishing emails to appear as if they are coming from the trusted and verified sources. This is one of the alarming issues right now because users often rely on the verified domain which has a reputation and this works s a light that the email is safe. As a result, many people are clicking malicious links, downloading attachments, or even replying with sensitive information—thinking the message is real.

Google’s Official Response

The tech giant has acknowledged the issues and is actively working towards it. The company says they are trying to fix the issue and strengthening their detection system so that it can identify the attackers who are trying to abuse the verifications system. While no timeline has been shared for the fix, Google has issued strong advice for all users in the meantime.

How to Identify and Stop Dangerous Emails:

Here are top tips on how you can identify the malicious emails:

If you receive email request to verify your account and ask you to reset your password.

If any email leads you to suspicious URL’s

Attachments in email that you don’t know about

If email is equipped with the poor grammar or wrong English words.
