The title was played by tens of millions of gamers around the world – but is now being “permanently shut down”.

Beatstar is expected to close forever at the end of the month.
The rhythm action game launched in 2021 and had a loyal fanbase, but game-makers revealed that the doomed game was being canned earlier this year.
Sister title Country Star is also being shut down alongside Beatstar on October 31, 2025.
“It is with great sadness that we have made the tough decision to stop development on Beatstar and Country Star,” said NextBeat, the company currently managing the game.
“As of October 31 2025, both Beatstar and Country Star servers respectively will be permanently shut down and the game will no longer be accessible.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to have created something as wonderful as these games have been for the past 4 years, and even more of a privilege to witness the game and our incredible community grow.”
Beatstar launched in 2021 as part of a collaboration between Space Ape Games and its majority owner Supercell (the Clash of Clans giant).
By September 2022, Beatstar had hit more than 35 million players.
And in 2023, it was reported that more that 60 million people had played Beatstar.
Supercell went on to fully acquire Space Ape and its titles in 2024, with NextBeat picking up the company’s rhythm games. NextBeat has since been acquired by language-learning app Duolingo.
In a statement, NextBeat said: “There has been an immeasurable amount of support, passion and dedication put into the game, not only by our game team but by every player.
“We’re eternally grateful for the years full of love and commitment you’ve given our games, it’s something each member of the game team will remember for years to come.”
HOW WILL BEATSTAR SHUTDOWN WORK?
NextBeat says that you can still keep playing the game until the servers shut down for iPhone and Android.
And any current purchases will work until the deadline too.

But it’s no longer possible to purchase new content with any payment method – except for in-game currency.
If you made a purchase between July 18 and August 18 this year, you can request a refund for it.
According to NextBeat, you can request refunds through the support portal right up until the server shutdown on October 31, 2025.
NextBeat added: “We have extended events and season passes for players to enjoy until October 31.
“You will notice several changes in game, including daily gem updates, card rewards distribution amounts and merch and song lifecycle updates.”
According to NextBeat, it has “no plans to allow” duplication of the game by players who want to run it on private servers.
The company also confirmed that it wouldn’t be selling or transferring the game to another company, and that it had “no plans to bring Beatstar back in the future“.
NextBeat also said it wasn’t currently working on other music games, had no plans to release any in the future, and wouldn’t be adding any new songs to the existing game.

The official Discord server for the game remains open, but NextBeat said it would decide its future at a later date.
