Honda is recalling over 400,000 of its popular Civic vehicles after discovering that a manufacturing flaw may cause the wheels to come off while driving.

The voluntary recall applies to 406,000 Civics spanning model years 2016 to 2021.

The issue stems from a supplier error, according to Honda, that “could cause the wheel nuts to loosen and detach.”

“This could result in the wheel separating from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash or injury,” the automaker said in a press release.

Honda says only a limited number of vehicles are equipped with the potentially faulty wheels (3,276) and encourages owners of a recalled Civic to take their car to an authorized Honda dealership for an inspection.

If necessary, the dealership will replace the wheels for free, according to Honda.

Honda says that, as of Nov. 7, it has not received confirmed reports of crashes or injuries caused by the faulty wheels.

Civic owners can also find out if their vehicles are included in the recall by visiting the Honda website or calling (888) 234-2138.
