Honeycomb has announced the general availability of its Hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) service, enabling developers to integrate observability data directly into AI-powered developer tools such as GitHub Copilot.

MCP provides a structured interface for tools and AI agents to query observability data, enabling developers to surface traces, metrics, and logs in their IDE without switching context. This high-level capability is designed to streamline debugging and reduce time spent navigating between systems, while also laying the groundwork for consistent access across AI assistants and integrations.

Originally launched as an open source project, MCP is now offered by Honeycomb as a managed service. This version simplifies adoption by removing the need for teams to self-host or maintain supporting infrastructure, lowering operational overhead. Honeycomb also announced that MCP is listed in the newly launched AI Agents and Tools category on the AWS Marketplace, making it easier for enterprises to procure and deploy the service. A PR Newswire release noted that the new marketplace category was created to highlight tools designed to support AI agents, with Honeycomb’s inclusion signalling early recognition of its role in this emerging space.

Arun Penmetsa, highlighted the milestone on LinkedIn, writing that he was “excited to see the launch of Honeycomb’s Hosted MCP, now available in AWS Marketplace, to enable AI agents and developer tools to query observability data in real time.” Charity Majors, CTO and co-founder at Honeycomb, said in a LinkedIn post that the depth of Honeycomb’s data can enable powerful experiences for both agents and IDEs, and she pointed to the announcement of Hosted MCP’s general availability on the AWS Marketplace as a key step in that direction.

MCP integrates directly into developer environments, allowing engineers to query telemetry data from Honeycomb without leaving their coding tools. According to Honeycomb’s documentation, the protocol is designed to standardise access for multiple AI assistants, plugins, and IDE extensions, providing a consistent way to surface observability insights across different toolchains. This consistency means developers can use the same queries and workflows regardless of which AI-driven assistant or integration they are working with, ensuring continuity across teams and environments.

Industry coverage has also recognised the significance of the launch. MCPMarket covered Honeycomb’s listing on AWS Marketplace, highlighting its relevance for enterprises adopting AI-driven developer tools. In addition, a YouTube presentation walked through practical examples of how Hosted MCP can bring observability insights directly into real-life development workflows.

The hosted offering builds on Honeycomb’s earlier efforts to make MCP adoption as seamless as possible. In another Honeycomb blog post, the company described the onboarding process as “as easy as 1-2-3,” emphasising the low barrier to entry for teams exploring AI-enhanced observability workflows. With Hosted MCP now available, Honeycomb positions itself at the intersection of observability and AI-driven developer productivity, aiming to give organisations new ways to connect telemetry data with everyday coding practices.
