Prime Flash Days are approaching and are taking center stage at Amazon. The American firm does not only have this event in mind and has just unveiled the 2024 edition of its SME report, citing its “essential role” in the growth of French SMEs. To convince, Amazon recalls that more than 16,000 French SMEs were active on its site in 2023. They sold more than 100 million products, or more than 190 products per minute and an increase of 5% compared to 2022.
1% of French SME exports could go through Amazon in 2024
The Île-de-France region concentrates these small and medium-sized businesses with more than 5,200 active SMEs. Amazon also lists the ambition of others such as Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, which boasts more than 2,000 active SMEs, including more than 1,500 exporters, generating more than 95 million euros in export sales. For Amazon, this dynamic of SMEs has contributed to the creation of more than 35,000 jobs in France and demonstrates “the positive impact of the marketplace on the national and local economy”. An observation that is obviously not shared by many organizations, such as the association for the taxation of financial transactions and for citizen action (Attac). The latter ensures that Amazon’s activity has disastrous consequences on employment in France.
In the meantime, the figures tend to confirm that Amazon is essential for SME activity in France. “In 2023, they will achieve a total export turnover of 100 billion euros. They garnered 900 million euros in sales that year on the Amazon marketplace internationally, i.e. 15% more than in 2022. If growth is the same in 2024, they will achieve 1%. of their total export sales on Amazon, i.e. around 1 billion euros”explains economist Nicolas Bouzou, on the occasion of the presentation of Amazon’s annual report on SMEs, in comments relayed by LSA.
Amazon wants to promote French brands with “La Vitrine Française”
For its part, Amazon prefers to praise its role in the international development of French SMEs. “More than 80% of them have launched into export, generating more than 900 million euros in sales, an increase of more than 15% in one year”explains the American multinational. While the European Union remains their main territory of activity, more than 55% of these companies have also managed to penetrate non-EU countries. They generated more than 180 million euros in turnover, if we are to believe the SME report.
In this context, Amazon announces the launch of a brand new online store called “La Vitrine Française”. Intended exclusively for SMEs and “iconic French brands”it aims to help French companies promote their products to Amazon customers in Italy, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom. This French showcase will offer more than 12 million references from all product categories.
AI to improve the experience on Amazon
At the same time, the American giant is deploying solutions integrating generative AI. The latter intends to play a role in simplifying the process of creating product sheets, but also to enrich already existing sheets. According to a study carried out among 500 SMEs in France, AI would already bring time and efficiency savings (72%), an improvement in their content (71%), an increase in their profitability (68%). , the improvement of their customer service (67%) and easier access to international customers (67%).
During your searches, you will also be likely to see more AI-generated images. Indeed, an image generator is available and Amazon presents it as a tool “designed to remove creative barriers and enable SMBs to produce staged images that improve the performance of their adverts”.
