SHARE

While your gametime is nothing to be ashamed of, if you’d prefer to keep your Steam activity private then fortunately it’s easy to do so.

Whether you’re keen to keep your gaming habits to yourself or don’t want to be inundated with requests to game online with friends, you can simply restrict your Steam profile’s visibility.

We’ve detailed how easy it is to hide your activity on Steam below.

What you’ll need:

  • A Steam account
  • Access to the Steam app

The short version:

  • Open the Steam app
  • Click on your account
  • Select View my profile
  • Select Edit Profile
  • Open Privacy Settings
  • Click on Game details
  • Select Private

  1. Step 1.

    Open the Steam app

Although we’ll demonstrate how to hide your activity by using Steam’s Mac app, the steps are the same on a Windows device too.

  2. Step 2.

    Click on your account

You’ll find your profile in the top right corner of the Steam app. Click on your account name to open a drop down menu.

  3. Step 3.

    Go to View my profile

From the drop down menu, select View my profile.

  4. Step 4.

    Select Edit Profile

Underneath your Steam Level, you’ll find a button that says Edit Profile. Click here.

  5. Step 5.

    Open Privacy Settings

Open Privacy Settings by choosing the option in the left-hand side panel.

  6. Step 6.

Click on the Game details dropdown menu

Next to the Game details heading, you’ll see a dropdown menu. Open this.

  7. Step 7.

    Select Private

By clicking Private, this will hide whether you’re seen as in-game, the title of the game you’re playing, plus all your games, achievements and entire playtime too.

What can Steam friends see?

By default, your Steam friends can see whether you’re online or offline, in-game or away. Plus, if you don’t follow the above steps, they’ll also be able to see what games you’re playing.
