Subscription service fatigue is real, but HP believes you’ll be willing to sign up for its gaming laptop rental service to avoid the effects of RAM price increases.

The Omen Gaming Subscription, available across the US, lets you upgrade to a newer gaming laptop each year so you can try out the latest tech.

The cheapest tier comes with a Victus 15-inch laptop featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. That’s $49.99 a month to try out PCMag’s current pick for best budget gaming laptop.

The top-end package costs $129.99 a month for an Omen Max 16 laptop. It features an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. There are two middle models available for the Omen 16 at $69.99 per month, or for the Omen 17 at $79.99 per month. But there’s no rent-to-own option at the moment.

The service, which requires a soft credit check, isn’t entirely new; customers spotted it in September, but HP didn’t promote it much. It’s making the rounds again after Linus Tech Tips referenced it during a recent video.

HP offers a 30-day trial. That may be a useful way to try out a new laptop before deciding which product to buy. Remember to cancel in time, or you’ll be charged the full subscription amount.

You can also add accessories to your package. A HyperX Pulsefire Haste 2 Pro mouse, normally $119.99, is available for $4.99 a month. Other rentable accessories include gaming headsets, monitors, adapters, and microphones.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen HP experiment with rentals. In 2024, it introduced a printer subscription plan, starting at $6.99 per month, with dedicated 24/7 support. The brand continues to offer the plan, although the price is now $7.99 a month.
