According to the China Trademark Office of the National Intellectual Property Administration website, Huawei has recently applied to register a series of trademarks on ancient Chinese mythical figures Sun Wukong, Jingwei, Erlang Shen, and Leizhenzi. The trademarks are marked as “pending examination”. Huawei’s trademark applications for these mythical figures have sparked curiosity among Chinese citizens about the company’s next move, though it has not announced any new brand launches yet. Wukong is the rebellious Monkey King from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, Jingwei is a mythical bird symbolizing perseverance, Erlang Shen is a powerful warrior god with a third eye, and Leizhenzi is a god of thunder with wings gifted by the Jade Emperor.
