According to the notice, a software error in the audio-video navigation system could cause it to fail while driving, increasing the risk of an accident.

WASHINGTON – Nearly 84,000 Genesis vehicles are being recalled by Hyundai due to a software bug that could cause the dashboard display to malfunction.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall on January 16 for certain 2025 and 2026 Genesis models, including the G80, GV80, GV60, GV70 and the electric versions of the G80 and GV70. According to the notice, a software glitch in the audio-video navigation system could cause it to fail while driving, preventing drivers from accessing critical safety information such as fuel level and speedometer.

The defect means the cars violate Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101, which sets specific requirements for vehicle controls and displays to ensure drivers have access to essential operating information.

Hyundai advises owners to turn off the HD radio until a permanent fix can be installed. The fix involves updating the audio-video navigation software, which Genesis plans to deliver via an over-the-air update. Dealers can also inspect and issue the update for free.

The company will begin sending notification letters to owners of affected vehicles on March 16. Genesis customers with concerns can contact customer service at 844-340-9741 with reference number 031G.

Hyundai has received 237 reports regarding the defect, dating from September 26, 2024 to January 2. There have been no confirmed crashes, fires, injuries or deaths related to the recall, according to the release. The recall number is 26V019000.
