Pleos is an end-to-end software platform that integrates high-performance chips and controllers, a vehicle operating system (Vehicle OS), an infotainment system (Pleos Connect) as well as cloud infrastructure, fleet management and mobility and logistics optimisation solutions. This technology stack will also enable a range of intelligent mobility functions drivers can use on the road, including autonomous driving, vehicle connectivity, real-time data analysis and optimised route planning.
With the new business unit, the Group plans to develop its software-defined vehicles (SDV) by generating innovations in electrical and electronic (E&E) architecture, alongside the development of the vehicle OS and Pleos Connect. Specifically, the company aims to create “efficient and flexible software platforms, strengthening connectivity between vehicles and infrastructure,” by combining all the development under one roof. Hyundai also revealed that it now plans to implement Level 2 autonomous driving by the end of 2027, utilizing AI to improve model efficiency.
In tandem with the new business unit, the Hyundai Group also introduced a ‘Next Urban Mobility Alliance,’ which aims to “realize a cloud-based mobility vision by creating a public-private partnership framework to connect and optimize movements in an autonomous transportation environment.” The alliance is to take a collaborative approach to solving “social issues like mobility rights, regional depopulation and the climate crisis.”
Hyundai’s software ecosystem is already taking shape and has support from Samsung Electronics, Google, Naver, SOCAR and Unity, which are all contributing in terms of connectivity and improving user experience.
“In the rapidly changing automotive industry, Hyundai Motor Group has been dedicated to SDV development since 2023. Today, starting with Pleos 25, we are transforming into a company providing software-centered mobility experiences,” explained Chang Song, President and Head of Hyundai Motor and Kia’s Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) Division, adding: “Our ultimate goal is to achieve Cloud Mobility, where all forms of mobility are connected through software on the cloud, and continuously evolve over time. Pleos serves to create a connected mobility experience expanding from a vehicle to fleets, hardware to software, and ultimately to the entire mobility infrastructure and cities.”
