I Gave Dyson’s OnTrac Headphones Four Stars, and They’re 40% Off for Prime Day

Dyson might be best known for fancy, expensive air purifiers and vacuums, but they’ve also dipped their toes into making fancy, expensive headphones. I reviewed the Dyson OnTrac last year and gave the headphones an excellent four-star rating. The OnTrac sounds great, looks striking, and has surprisingly powerful active noise cancellation. It’s also usually $500, which is a big ask when some of our other favorite ANC headphones, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Sony WH-1000XM6, perform even better and are $50 cheaper. But what if the OnTrac was $300? Well, that would be an amazing deal right there! And guess what?

The Dyson OnTrac is $300 for Amazon Prime Day. You can buy it now for 40% off. That’s a steal for what you get.

Dyson always aims high with its style and design elements, and it’s pretty hit or miss (and they have a lot of work to do on their robot vacuum cleaners). When I first heard about the OnTrac last year, I was ready to pan it for being overpriced and overbuilt, an odd remnant from its gimmicky and ineffective predecessor, the now-discontinued Zone headphones that doubled as a personal air purifier. The OnTrac surprised me by actually sounding very, very good, and blocking out nearly all outside noise. I’d easily put it alongside the even more expensive Apple AirPods Max, though the QuietComfort Ultra and WH-1000XM6 still beat it in value and features.

The OnTrac is expensive at $500, there’s no question about that. But I couldn’t honestly call it “overpriced” when it succeeds in rivaling Apple, Bose, and Sony’s best in performance and style. For $300, when those other headphones are still at or around their original retail prices, it’s downright cheap. If you’re looking for splurge-worthy headphones, check them out, and for much less of a splurge than they usually would be.
