What’s the difference between the Kindle Scribe (2024) and the upcoming release?
The Kindle Scribe
At its 2025 fall hardware event, Amazon unveiled its redesigned Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. The main difference between the new Kindle Scribe and the 2024 version currently available is their design. The new Kindle Scribe features an 11-inch E Ink display with slimmer bezels, while the older model has thicker bezels and a smaller 10.2-inch E Ink screen. The new model is also slightly lighter and thinner, weighing 400g and measuring 5.4mm thick, compared to the older Scribe’s 433g weight and 5.7mm thickness.
The updated Kindle Scribe also has a faster chipset and more memory, but that doesn’t mean the 2024 Kindle Scribe is slow; it remains quite efficient for note-taking and reading.
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoftwas also recently announced, marking the first-ever Kindle Scribe with a color E Ink display. However, if color isn’t a priority for you, the black-and-white E Ink display on the 2024 Kindle Scribe will suffice and still provides a paper-like feel.
Price is another key factor. The new Kindle Scribe with 64GB of storage costs $550, while the 2024 version with 64GB is on sale for $340, a $210 difference. Overall, I still really like the 2024 Kindle Scribe. While I don’t mind the design of the new one, the older Kindle Scribe remains impressive, and I don’t mind its slightly thicker bezels since they make it easier to hold without touching the screen. You can find the 2024 Kindle Scribe on sale on Amazon now for a limited time.
