HBO Max has a huge selection of shows and movies from all of its partner networks, including HBO, Discovery, Food Network, and more. New shows and movies are always being added, so here are my top choices for this weekend and the week ahead, plus everything new streaming below. Now that we’re into November, we get a deposit of library movies, a new female-centric comedy, cool documentaries, and more.
This Week on Max: PCMag’s Picks
I Love LA (Nov. 2)
As sure as the moon spins around the Earth, HBO must continue to create comedies that define a generation of young women. The 2020s get their due with I Love LA, created by the very funny Rachel Sennott. Moving away from the New York City of Girls and Sex and the City, this one follows a group of zoomers with big ambitions and bigger personality disorders trying to find fame and fortune.
I Am Curious Johnny (Nov. 3)
We tend to think of the “selfie” as a modern invention, but this new film from Julien Temple, who has been delving into the world of celebrity since 1980, puts things into perspective. Jean “Johnny” Pigozzi was the heir to the Simca car company, and in the 1970s he used his wealth to mix with stars around the world, snapping pictures of them with him using a handheld Leica in a way that wouldn’t be out of place in your Instagram grid.

Alex Vs. ARod (Nov. 6)
HBO has always been reliable for deep dives into the world of sports, and this three-episode docuseries from production house Religion of Sports looks to be no exception. Alex Vs. ARod checks in with one of the most polarizing players in baseball history. When Alex Rodriguez got busted for using performance-enhancing drugs in 2013, it upended the sport and turned him from a hero to a villain.
