In 2025, the multimedia streaming market is absolutely saturated with competing service providers. For the most part, these internet-based over-the-top (OTT) streaming platforms are accessible via a paid, recurring subscription fee, though there are a few outliers like Tubi, Pluto TV, Plex, and Stirr TV that serve as competent free alternatives.
Elsewhere, there are streaming services that provide a curated selection of free content to users, so long as they’re using the provider’s first-party hardware — think Roku TV, Samsung TV Plus, and Sony Pictures Core. One such streamer I only just recently stumbled across is TV maker Vizio’s WatchFree+ service — and I’m so glad I did.
WatchFree+ is a surprisingly comprehensive service, with Vizio boasting over 300 free live TV channels and over 15,000 on-demand movies and shows across the platform. If you happen to own a Vizio television set, and if you’re in the mood for some free, no-strings-attached entertainment, then read on for the full low down on WatchFree+.
Vizio WatchFree+ has got quite the selection of content
Plenty of shows and movies to sift through
As mentioned, Vizio’s WatchFree+ is currently home to more than 300 television channels, in addition to over 15,000 live and on-demand movies and shows. A wide variety of genres are available to sift through, including:
- News + Opinion
- Crime
- Westerns + Classics
- Game SHows
- Reality
- Comedy
- Entertainment
- Nature + Science
- Food + Travel
- Kids + Family
- Home
- Culture + Lifestyle
- History + Docs
- Inspiration + Faith
- Sports
- Music
- Mood + Ambiance
- En Español
- Shopping
In other words, WatchFree+ covers just about every content style under the sun, while also offering select on-demand movies and TV shows, as well as a number of local news stations (FOX, ABC, Action News, WKYT, WFTV9, and many others are all present and accounted for).
Vizio provides a full WatchFree+ channel guide on its official site, which is accessible through this link. This guide can also be downloaded as a PDF file for offline access.
There’s no original content on Vizio WatchFree+
There is, however, a selection of exclusively curated channels
Unfortunately, WatchFree+ doesn’t host any original or exclusive shows or movies, though the service does offer “channels curated specially for Vizio Smart TV owners.” Additionally, the TV maker offers “Featured” seasonal programming, themed collections, and exclusive pop-up channels, all of which are unique and relative to the time of the year. For example, with the holiday season fast approaching, expect an influx of holly-jolly-programming to hit the streamer in the coming weeks.
It’s accessible on your smartphone and tablet
Some, but not all, WatchFree+ content can be streamed via the Vizio mobile app
Naturally, the primary point of entry for accessing WatchFree+ is via any one of Vizio’s modern smart TV sets. The streamer is easily accessible from within the Vizio OS Smartcast operating system, and you can quickly tune into channels using voice commands if you’re using a remote with Vizio Voice built into it (these remotes ship with most modern Vizio smart TV sets, and they’re distinct in that they have a microphone built into them).
Additionally, Vizio has incorporated WatchFree+ functionality into its first-party Vizio mobile app, which is available to download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. At the moment, not all WatchFree+ content is accessible from the app, but over 270 live channels and over 30 local channels can be tuned into. As an added bonus, watch history is synced across both the mobile app and the smart TV experience, which is an appreciated inclusion.
Vizio WatchFree+ is entirely free
WatchFree+ doesn’t require a subscription, and there are no fees
As a media streaming service, WatchFree+ lives up to its name of being free. The streamer provides instant access to content, without the need for any additional services beyond owning a Vizio Smart TV. Content viewing is entirely unlimited, which means you’ll never be cut off or capped right in the middle of binge-watching a new TV series. Most importantly, there are no hidden fees, upsells, or aggressive account creation requirements needed to get started with the service.
