IBM has announced its intention to acquire Datastax, the supplier of Data solutions and artificial intelligence. Datastax technology will improve the Watsonx products portfolio, accelerating the use of generative artificial intelligence and helping customers free value of large amounts of unstructured data.
The acquisition also shows IBM’s commitment to the Artificial open source intelligence. Datastax is the creator of Astradb and Datastax Enterprise, NSOQL database and vector -driven database capacities driven by Apache Cassandra; and Langflow, the open source tool and community for the development of low -code artificial intelligence applications.
IBM promises that it will continue supporting, interacting and innovating with the open source communities in which Datastax participates, under a long -term commitment to the Open Source that includes the basic open source models IBM Granite and Instruct Lab, an innovative approach to promote the open source around the LLM.
IBM y DataStax
IBM says that companies have difficulty taking advantage of valuable and unstructured data of their business, which is essential to boost the generative AI. Without tools to properly eat and manage these non -exploit data, the expensive generative projects will not be able to develop their full potential. 70% of companies with high -performance generative initiatives experience data related to data, according to McKinsey research, and it is estimated that Only one percent of business data is represented in current AI modelsas Dianesh Nirmal, Senior Vice President of IBM Software explains:
“Companies cannot take advantage of the potential of generative AI without adequate infrastructure: open source tools and technologies that empower developers, take advantage of unstructured data and provide a solid basis for AI applications”.
There is explained the acquisition of Datastax, focused on improving solutions to climb the generative AI and transform business using business data. Precisely, the Datastax vector database stands out for taking advantage of unstructured business data and accelerating its value obtaining time, while LANGFLOW provides a graphic design environment of low code and components orchestration for generative AI applications that facilitates collaboration between various skill sets.
Datastax was founded in 2010 in California and has hundreds of clients that include Fedex, Capital One, The Home Depot and Verizon. The financial details of the transaction have not been revealed. The acquisition is expected to occur in the second quarter of 2025, subject to the usual closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
