AN ICONIC discount retailer that rivals TJ MAXX is closing two of its locations in the same state—and fans found out with a note on the door.
Ross Dress for Less in Honolulu, Hawaii is set to shutter the two stores this Friday, so shoppers only have a few days remaining to say goodbye.
The department store is closing its stores in Fort Street Mall and Keaaumoku.
Shoppers at the respective branches had to find out that their favorite discount place was closing after a flyer was left announcing the sad news.
Lisa Shandoria Johnson said: “This location has different items that we can’t find in any other stores so I’m saddened by the closing but I’m sure they’re doing what’s best for the company so we don’t lose the other stores.”
“Personally it’s too bad for the area too because the more closed down the area is the harder it’s going to be, just like the houseless people, and it’s just going to be a little more dangerous if things aren’t running,” said Carolyn Kopecky.

US braces for ‘45,000 store closures’
Some 45,000 bricks-and-mortar stores could close in the next five years, experts have warned.
Several major retailers have announced store closures or gone out of business altogether in recent years.
Chains such as Foot Locker, Sally Beauty, Tuesday Morning, Shore City, Z Gallerie, and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams have all gone out of business.
Bed Bath & Beyond has closed all of its brick-and-mortar stores and is now an online-only retailer.
The most affected retailers have been clothing, consumer electronics, sporting goods, hobby, book, music, and home furnishing stores since the start of 2019.
UBS has predicted the total number of retail stores will drop by 45k from 958k to 913k.
Despite that, the report says that certain stores should thrive while others decline.
It said retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, and Target, could be among the winners.
It is not known what has caused the sudden closures.
The company has been approached for comment.
Reports also note that a further 15 Ross Dress for Less stores will remain open throughout the state.
There are still over 2,100 locations across the country, almost 90 of which opened this year, where you can hunt for deals in just a couple of weeks.
FADING FURNITURE
It has also been announced that a major furniture chain is being forced to shut one of its locations, and shoppers are being urged to take advantage of the massive closing-down sale.
Decor Home Furniture & Mattresses bosses have urged shoppers to take advantage of “deals, deals and more deals” – with up to 80% off everything.
The furniture store is closing within weeks at the Whitehall Square shopping center in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
The chain announced the shuttering at the end of 2024.
They announced this news on social media, saying that it had “some bad news, and some good news.”
It added: “The bad news is we lost our lease in Whitehall and have to close that location forever.
“The good news is we have over 60,000 sq ft of furniture that must go, so that means you can get an amazing deal right now!”
Vinny Vijan, manager, told WFMZ-TV, an independent television station in Allentown, Pennsylvania, that the outlet will close in late February at 2180 MacArthur Road.
He said: “We got outbid by another business and are looking to relocate the store to another spot in Whitehall or possibly in Bethlehem.
“We haven’t yet found another space, but we are looking.”
